I don't know about you but I always have to have a book on the go, it certainly livens up the tube ride to work and helps me to relax in bed at the end of the day. Here are a few of our most recent reads...
Grace: A Memoir by Grace Coddington.
I have already blogged a little about this book here. The memoir is really well written and it's interspersed with illustrations by the author which are beautifully whimsical. If you have an interest in Fashion and or Vogue then this is a must read for you.
On the advice of Nicci I read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte.
I am already a fan of the other Bronte's sisters books, Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre are two of my favourite books of all time. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall has all the hallmarks of a Bronte sister book, scandal, drama and a very strong central woman character. It is an excellent read and it made me miss my tube stops which is a mark of an excellent book!

Now I freely admit that I bought this book entirely based on it's oh so very pretty cover! But admit it, so would you? However I was most pleasantly surprised to find it entirely captivating and almost impossible to put down. Even though it was first published in 1933, and the main character is a married mother of two, I found myself really relating to a lot of the situations she gets herself into. This is one of those books that I know I'll come back to time and again.

Some recommended reads from me:
ReplyDelete- The Song of Achilles (pretty boys in Ancient Greece fall in love)
- The Winter Book (beautiful stories revolving around a remote island in Finland where Tove Janson spent most of her life)
- The Hare with Amber Eyes (really good memoir of how a particular Japanese art collection got passed down a family of Austrians and then Brits.)
Thanks for the recommendations, we'll be sure to check them out. I love the sound of The Winter Book especially. Nicci x
