Friday Flashback // Get in my ears!

Hall & Oates, basically any song of theirs, but today specifically it's "I Can't Go For That (No can do)". I've been in a bit of a funk this week, we're in the process of moving house and it's all a bit stressful and unsettling, we've had a few issues sorting out contracts etc and it's led to me being a bit of a pain to live with.

Yesterday I rediscovered the awesomeness of Hall & Oates and you just can't help but want to boogie on down when you hear them. I also can't stop thinking about that Mighty Boosh scene when I hear this song, which also puts a smile on my face. It's a pretty fitting song for a Friday afternoon and should see you through the rest of the working day with a little spring in your step ready for the weekend!

Happy Friday!

I Am In Love // Get in my ears!

For those of you reading who don't know, I am in a band called I Am In Love (yes it is an odd name but we like it!). I tend not to toot on too much about it on here but today I am super excited to finally be able to share this video with you all.

It was shot a few weeks ago in our teeny tiny rehearsal room in North London and it is ever so slightly sea sickness inducing but excellent all at the same time. I'm so pleased with how it turned out, massive thanks to all involved!! Please take a look and I'd love to know your thoughts, and if you like it please pass it on.

Classic Album // The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill // Get in my Ears

A little disturbingly, it's 15 years since this awesome album was released in 1998. I adored this album when it came out, I was a little obsessed with Lauryn Hill in my youth (blame Sister Act 2 and Killing Me Softly by the Fugees) and this album just stoked that obsession some more! The songs have remained timeless and still feel relevant today. It really has become a classic album for me and whenever I listen to it I still want to dance around my bedroom much like my 11 year old self.

Give your ears a treat today....

Get in my ears // Can't stop listening to you...

This little mix tape is full of songs I've been obsessed with the last week or so and have been on repeat pretty much all the time. I think it's pretty suited to this mixed up weather we're having at the moment, a little bit hot a little bit cold, a little bit old a little bit new. Enjoy!

P.S This picture is from my trip to Camden beach last week, if you have a chance to get down there I would highly recommend it! The cocktails are amazing! Get there early though if you want to bag a deckchair and parasol, the queues get pretty long.

Recent Tunes

We haven't posted a playlist in a little while but we have both been purchasing a few new vinyls over recent weeks and we've compiled a playlist of the best bits. Second hand vinyl is fast becoming my favourite way of finding excellent new to me music. Just click on the link below to have a listen.

Field Day - What we did

Ahh Field Day, such a good festival and good memories! We had a ball on the day, there was glittery make up all round, lots of happy smiles, good food, good drink, amazing company, random thumb war fights, mid-riff baring and of course loads of wonderful music!

Solange Knowles made us all want to rock a 70s afro and in fact I bought a 70s jumpusit a few days later so I could channel her look for a wedding I'm going to! Also the music was the perfect accompanient for a summers day. I will definitely be getting on her album when it comes out. Excellent dance moves aswell.

Everything Everything impressed me, I wasn't that fussed for them before but they really got everyone going and it was a good dancing opportunity.

Bat for Lashes was so beautiful I didn't know whether to cry or laugh. I think I went for a bit of both! Singing along to Laura was a definite highlight for me! If you check out my vine account, you can see us swaying along on there! Vine Name: Lucy Clarke

Animal Collective didn't personally do it for me, I needed dancing music later on but their set was amazing and the music was good just not what a slightly drunken lady needed at that time!

We briefly checked out Django Django but we had to leave the tent to see another band but we checked back in towards the end of their set and it looked to be a corker! I saw them last year and they were one of highlights then.

During the day we also listened on the edges to various acts chilling out on our blanket and heard loads of good music, far too many to mention!

Have a look at the photos below for all the shenanigans!

I think it's safe to say that fun was had by all!

Also slight footnote........I brought a whole toilet roll for the day and whilst everyone mocked me at the beginning, I was the toilet paper fairy by the end of the day! Just wanted to point that out!

Take me back...

source
Sometimes, do you ever just wish for time machine to take you back to those simpler times? I'm feeling like that a little bit at the moment, and find I'm regressing back to listening to the music I used to love when I was about 15, it's like a time machine in music form...

I would go out to the local MVC (did that shop exist anywhere other than Kendal?) or to the outdoor market, or just steal albums from my older sisters' room (sorry Vic!). I would pick up anything and everything from the cheapo sections and hope that it would be good! Usually it worked out, and I found some of my favourite bands that way, other times not so much. But I loved the thrill of discovery that came with each buy and with listening to an album start to finish over and over (something I almost never do now).

Now that I have to be a grown up and deal with grown up things, I'm looking back fondly on those days and digging out those albums again. The coming weeks are going to be a testing time for my family but we're sticking together and I know we'll come out the other side stronger. Sometimes it takes something big to make you take stock and realise what's important in life and for me, my family and friends are the most important things. And while I know everything will be OK it's going to be tough so perhaps regressing somewhat will help me to get through and keep smiling.

Here's a little sampler then of my youth (click the link below), I am not saying I had good taste in music, usually quite the opposite! But these tracks I've chosen are some of the better ones, ones that have stayed with me and that I still go back to, I've filtered out most of the more questionable choices for you. I hope you enjoy and I'd love to know what songs always make you feel better when life's getting on top you, I could do with some suggestions.

Take me back...

Step it up

So last night the fear finally got the better of me. I dusted off my trainers, spent a frantic ten minutes searching my entire house for my iPod armband thingy (it was very sensibly in my gym bag after all) and squashed myself back into my running leggings. The reason for the fear is that on June 15th (less than two months away!!!) Lucy, Freya and I will be taking part in The Zest Challenge. This is a 10km run with obstacles thrown in for good measure.

Now I thought I would be golden for this one, I ran the Royal Parks Half marathon last year in a not too shabby time. Five minutes after leaving my house though I realised it was going to be so much harder than I thought. I am seriously out of shape!! I huffed and puffed my way once around Finsbury Park (approximately 3km) and I swear I nearly died. Now this could be a little to do with the Green and Black's Easter egg I scoffed about 30 mins before the run, but mostly I think I need to train my ass of from now until June.

So with my new found focus on the task in hand, I thought it would be nice to update my running music a little as well. Nothing too crazy, mostly mid tempo to get me started off. I'm going to try it out tonight and hopefully will make it the whole way through the playlist, it's only 11 tracks, surely I can do that...? Wish me luck!

Fancy Full Tunes Thursday

It's a little bit later than usual, but better late than never right? With the announcement of the Glastonbury line up last night my mind has got to thinking about festivals and the promise of (slightly) warmer weather, cider and crazy dancing. I have actually got tickets for Glastonbury but since seeing the line up I have to admit I'm not completely convinced. Of course it would be amazing to see the Rolling Stones, but Arctic Monkeys and Mumford and Sons? However, a lot of the beauty of Glastonbury is the atmosphere in general and discovering so many bands you'd never heard of before, so perhaps I won't relinquish my ticket just yet, but Latitude is looking mighty inviting...

Anyway one festival we're all on board with here is Field Day, which is coming up pretty soon now so it's totally legitimate to start getting excited! The whole gang is heading down and it's going to be awesome! Adding to our excitement was the release of the Field Day playlist by the creators of the festival recently, giving us the chance to swot up on all the acts playing. So while this isn't a handcrafted playlist by yours truly, it is a rather lovely introduction to a lot of new songs.

If we all collectively start dreaming of festival sun then perhaps it might actually transpire. Go...

We Like Yellow things

I know I'm not the only one when I say that I find this time of year the hardest, it's still so dark and cold but there's no Christmas to look forward to. I find my mood just gets so low some evenings when it feels like yet another day has gone by in the office where I haven't seen daylight at all. So when I saw these flowers poking their heads through in the park it gave me hope. There's nothing like a pop of yellow to brighten up a grey day and signal that spring is somewhere around the corner. This playlist has lots of songs related to colour yellow in one way or another, some links more obscure than others. It's uplifting and fun and cheerful and I hope it helps you keep the faith that we're almost there now!

Weekend in the city

On Friday after work I headed on down to Earl's Court to see Bloc Party at one of the last gigs to be held at Earl's Court. The last gig was on Saturday and it was Example, the less said about that the better really. It seems to me like a crying shame for such an iconic venue to go out with that, but what can you do?

I had never been to Earl's Court before Friday and actually almost didn't make it then either! Just as I was settling down on the tube my friend Seb jokingly asked "you've got your ticket right?" and I realised, with that cold dread, that in fact no I didn't have my ticket and promptly leapt off the train just before the doors closed. Then realised I was on my own! After a quick jog home I was back on my way though and I'm so glad I made it even if, as Lucy put it, Bloc Party are "rather retro", I had a pretty fantastic retro time.

Their new songs aren't, in my opinion, up to so much, but the golden oldies were fantastic and I felt about 15 again when the mosh pit broke out right in front of us during Flux and we had to jump or be jumped on! Their lasers were pretty epic too! Nothing like a proper sweaty gig on a Friday to kick off the weekend and forgot your weekday woes. They didn't play my favourite song though, "So here we are", but I'll forgive them.

Fancy Full tunes

This fancy full tunes is also a little later than usually intended, it's one of those weeks where work just seems to be taking over. But if you're having a week like that too, or just want to listen to some lovely new tunes then this will be just the tonic. A playlist created by Mr Edmund for me which I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope you're having a love filled day.

We have created a playlist, whilst smushy love songs are great we decided to make a playlist for dancing. As I don't know about you, but nothing makes us Fancy Full ladies want to bounce around and dance like a goon more than when we're all loved up.

Enjoy!

Fancy Full Tunes

Fleetwood Mac are reissuing their superb album Rumours and there has been quite a few documentaries on TV over the past couple of days about the making of the album and the infamously complicated relationships between all the bandmates. I am a massive fan of theirs and absolutely love Stevie Nicks' style in the 70s and  80s, she is an absolute beauty! This week's Fancy Full Tunes has some Fleetwood Mac mixed in with some other songs that are capturing my attention at the moment.

Just click on the link below, pop those headphones in or turn the speakers up and enjoy.
